History of BYN 486

Built in 1935 and believed to be one of the first Brough Superior cars ever built, this is one of the rare and beautiful straight 8 cylinder 28.8HP Drop Head Coupe models. Only 25 were ever built.
Originally bought by Major Michael Wills of W.D and H.O Wills Tobacco Manufacturer British tobacco importer and cigarette manufacturer formed in Bristol, England. While he was a student at Oxford University.

Later that same year, the car was purchased from the insurance company by a Wing Commander Sykes. The car was put back into use but when fuel cost at the time became to expensive the engine was removed and a 6 cyclinder engine was installed, the car was then used until 1950 when it was pushed into a shed in Iver Middlesex and later moved outside under a tarpaulin when the shed space was needed, the car stayed outside in all weathers under a sheet for about 10 years.
On the 4th February 1937 the car was involved in an accident which badly damaged the car and was written off by the insurance company.
The next morning the car had been rolled back onto its wheels
In 1960 the present owner Ian Johns accepted the car as a settlement for an unpaid bill of £15 from Mr Sykes After Taking 2 days and many toubles to drive the car home from Iver in Middelsex to Cornwall the restoration project begins. Weather and time had taken theri toll on metals, chrome and woodwork.
The car was restored to it former glory and has spent most of its life in Cornwall, The car is still loved and used and has now been in the family for 53 Years
